Justice Delayed is justice Denied

The murder trial of Zoliswa Nkonyana in the Khayelitsha Magistrate court has once again been postponed to the September 28 and once again due to the withdrawal of a defence attorney. 

The Western Cape Alliance End Hate Campaign acknowledge the right of the accused to legal representation however they feel that the continuous postponements and the failure of the Magistrate in this case to take a strong stand against such postponements, have led to a situation where justice is being delayed unreasonably.  The rights and wellbeing of the main state witness are not being respected as not only did she witness Zoliswa’s murder, but she was also attacked on February 4, 2006.  The attack, the threats by the accused and the trial have disrupted her life and continues to impact negatively on her and her family. Also affected is Zoliswa’s mother who returns to the Khayelitsha Magistrate court each time only to witness nothing but the arrogance of the accused.
