Brrrr, now is the winter of our discontent! But never mind, there’s always plenty of ways to keep warm in the month of June.

While we in the southern hemisphere await the winter solstice, our friends up north are enjoying summer and also the many Gay Pride parades and the 40th anniversary celebrations of the Stonewall Riots. At the recent Pride parade in Moscow, on the same day as the Eurovision Song Contest, police arrested the handful of marchers and supporters. One of those arrested was UK activist Peter Tatchell who has written about his experience with Slavic Pride.

-The current economic climate could possibly make the winter seem slightly longer and colder so we’ve found a few ways to hopefully brighten things up. This month The Pink Tongue chats to poet Tamo Von Arnim about his new works and Mr Mardi Gras 2009, Chris Macgregor.

Another important date on the calendar this month is June 19, the start of National Drug Awareness Week, while football fans are no doubt excited by the upcoming Confederations Cup.

That’s it for June.

Play safe!
